Well, I made my first beaver set this week by making a pile of brush on the bank kinda v shaped, and putting some food lure under it. At the base under an inch or two of water, I put a #3 duke coil spring, rigged on a 24 in. stake with a trampoline spring. I went to check the trap and the water was WAY up. Around a foot. I remembered the trap was right beside a big rock sticking up by some old posts, but the rock was completely submerged. the only reason I found it, was seeing the beaver head sticking up The only problem was the water was way up, I was planning to dispatch it with a baseball bat, and the trap chain was only about 7-8 in. (spring included) Well, I ended up waiting for him to bring his head up and clubbing him. then just pulling the stake out. Not huge, but a nice one to start! will try and get a picture up ASAP

Not real big like I said, but a start! That's a 24 in stake beside it.

Nice one. Are you selling the pelt or making something out of it?

Congrats Brad! Hope this is the first of many. Thanks! I'm staying with a friend tomorrow and he's got a ton of beaver at his lake, and I just bought a #4 4coil for beaver. So hopefully we'll get some more.!

Well I made two of these same sets on his lake, the first one I lost the washer on my stake and I was double staking, so wired it to the first take with nothing to stop the wire but I left it raised up. The way I had to do it (forgot wire cutters) I had to put it in front of the spring, making it useless. The trap was sprung and there was some disturbance, but it never got on the bank. I think I may have put to much on the trap jaws and got a bad catch, or he hit it with his body/tail. Who knows. I;ll be back after them soon!
