IVe planted that before.. did good for about 2 or 3 weeks then the weeds took them over..like anything else. It would have been really good if i sprayed the plot down with annual grass herbicide first.

A little update on my food plot...it sure is growing nicely! I couldn't be happier up to this point. The deer are really starting to feed on the turnip greens which are about 6 inches tall already! I also have some pics of deer laying down in it. This pic shows the soybeans growing in the foreground and the brassicas growing in the background. The brassicas patch. Really happy with this so far!

Looking good. I planted roughly an acre last week after tilling and spraying. It sprouted Monday but the deer tracks though it are ridiculous. they are eating all the sprouts. Gona see if I cant post a pic of it.

Looks great. I have realized I need to thin out some trees to open up the canopy if I am ever going to get anything to grow at my grandma's.

A bit of an update on my food plot project. After the failure last year I had a little better game plan going into this year. Instead of sending my soil sample to the local SWCD, I sent it to Whitetail Institute. The difference in the information provided of the result sheets was night and day. Local SWCD... WTI... The price between the two was about a wash, but I'll use WTI every time from now on. So I got my soil prepared properly with the suggested lime and fertilizer. I frost seeded some clover and chicory just to see if I could get something started. I think the late spring helped me a lot, because it allowed the sprouts to get plenty of sun before the trees were all leafed out. The last couple of weeks I have been amazed at how much growth I am seeing each time I check the plot... I am going to let it go through the summer, mow it short in the late summer/early fall, do another soil check and then spread my Imperial Bowstand seed in late August/early September.

Eli - after seeing your soil report from WTI I may consider doing that. That is a really helpful tool in getting a plot to really take off!

The nice thing is that they will give you a report tailored to one or two WTI products that you choose. Here is the link to purchase the WTI soil sample kit... www.whitetailinstitute.com/products/herbicides/soil_sample.html They received my sample on a Monday and I had an email with my results before 9:00 am the next morning. I know some folks think the WTI seed is a ripoff and that you can get the same thing from the local co-op, but I don't think the seed from the local co-op goes through all of the testing and research that WTI does with their seed. Plus, the seed is developed specifically for deer.
