Chase and me went down to the Goose Pond last night to do a little fishin' and froggin'. We did some casting from shore in the main pool for a while and didn't get a bite, even though fish were constantly hitting the surface. Moved across the highway and the water was absolutely alive with activity. Unfortunately, it looked like all "trash fish." Shad mainly we assumed? The water was too muddy to tell. Never did get a bite.
We slid the boat in and started down a canal to catch some frogs. We had some kind of big fish hit the boat in shallow water so hard that it rocked the boat. Chase thought he caught a glimpse of a buffalo, so that's what we're guessing. We did see some fairly large gar too.
Chase did pretty good catching the frogs by hand, but some we couldn't get to because of trees in the water and had to gig.
We were only on the water about 2 hours and half way through I did a frog count and we had about a dozen....when we got back to the truck we only had 9! We were putting them in a fish basket and I guess they were just crawling right back out.
Chase with a couple of the bigger ones...
We were cleaning them and Chase seen something sticking out of ones mouth....he pulled a whole green frog out of a bullfrogs mouth!
We only ended up with enough for an "appetizer" instead of the frog leg fry we were hoping for, but it was still a blast! I tell ya, that place is creepy at night. The birds squawking, huge fish hitting the boat, snakes, 'rats, and we ended up eye to eye with beaver a couple times. Some noises we heard we don't have a clue what they were. Can't wait to try it again!
On a side note....the water levels have really dropped. I think the waterfowl hunting is really going to take a hit if we don't get some rain before fall.
We shot some video and I'll try to put something together.
