I guess I can see it being a real brute in a year or two.... But I still would have shot. Not to criticize you Chase, but there is no way I could have passed that up! Near the end of the video there was something that looked like it was connected to his left antler and going way back his neck. Was that part of the drop tine or something stuck in his rack?

I seen that too...but after looking at it a few times I think it's the left ear pointing back.
Life is just a series of obstacles preventing you from fishing.

I thought it was it's ear too at first, but watching it a few times I'm not so sure. Looked like it had something funky going on. We may never know..... Chase has gone big time trophy hunter on us..... 10 point/drop tine/with a bow/on camera.... really, Chase?
Trying to film hunts is so tough, you will make mistakes. I made a mistake by letting this deer walk by me at 18 yds. When I first spotted this buck he was 60-70 yds through some trees. My first thought was he wasn't close to a shooter. I don't know what I was thinking. My bow was hanging to my left and I was so focused on filming, before I knew it he was closing fast and looking bigger with each step. If I would've thought he was a shooter I would have grabbed my bow as soon as I spotted him. I didn't even notice the drop tine until watching the video. If I would've payed more attention to the actual deer instead of worrying about getting good footage, I would be getting congrats and not grief and he would be on the way to the taxidermist.
Bright Side - I know there are bigger deer in the area, and if the buck makes it through the season he will be an AMAZING buck next year.
Dark Side - I may never see another drop tine buck in my life let alone KILL one, and exactly what Monty said.

That aint his ear...dunno what it is but its definitely something funky.
Chase, dont let these guys get ya down. I have taken a lot of heat for just filming deer and not shooting (back when i actually had a decent place to hunt) The way i look at it is its "Catch and release" hunting!
I don't blame Chase for passing. Heck, I gave him a hard time last year about his 10 pointer, calling it a "future monster" , and that was a bigger buck than the drop tine buck. Looks to me like it's possibly just a 2 year old. Can you imagine what it would look like in a couple years?? I just hope he doesn't walk in front of me....or we'll never find out!
I still think the thing sticking back is the ear. In the one place on the video he starts to walk away and lifts his head a little and you can see the whole ear.....right where something had been pointed back.

Thanks guys. I don't know what the "funky thing" is you guys are talking about. All I see is the drop tine and his ear. I don't know what I will do if I get another chance at him. Hopefully I just kill a bigger one before I have to make that decision.

The last couple seconds of your film look......it looks like a stick stuck in the back of his skull. The wife said "it looks like an arrow." (yeah right)
