Yesterday evening me and buddy went a fished a local lake about 30 min from home. When we left the house at 4:30 it was about 84 degrees and overcast but quite muggy. It looked like a good time to be on the lake. However, on the way to the lake the clouds cleared out and the temp went up to close to 90. I told my buddy when we began to see them clearing out that this isn't a good sign.
Once on the lake it took us probably an hour and a half to land our first fish which my buddy caught. He proceeded to catch 2 more bass in about 10 minutes. 1 was about 14"-15" and the other were probably 12" - nothing special. About a half hour later he proceeds to catch about a 20" pike. I'm starting to think "when is it gonna be my turn?". Finally a few minutes later BAM! something hits my crankbait. It ends up being another 20" pike. I tell my buddy to take my picture so I can at least have proof on this site that I actually do fish on occasion . He says, "oh $hi!, I left it my camera phone in my truck". I had my phone in my pocket but my hands were covered in slime (if you've ever handled a pike you know what I'm talking about) and I don't let buddies reach into my front pockets for me !
All in all, we had a good time although it was a rather slow outing. My buddy ended with 3 pike (biggest was probably 24") and 4 bass. I ended up with 1 pike and 1 bass (dink). All fish were taken on hard crankbaits except my bass was taken on a buzzbait just before we left at dark.
There were a two old guys fishing for bluegills in the same area that we caught all our pike and they had a nice mess of 40 giant gills caught on a bubble and fly in 25' of water They came on to the lake right after us. I'm almost wishing I was in their boat.
