After a hot tip from robo over the weekend , Chase and me went over to Minnehaha this evening to try for a few stocker trout. We had some worms we dug out of the garden, some red and orange salmon eggs, and a variety of small spinners.
It started off slow and it was rough casting with the high winds. After almost an hour Chase moved up the bank to some deep water and immediately hooked up on his first on a worm fished tightline.
I had put my best ice fishing reel on an ultra light rod and tied on a 1/16 oz rooster tail and brought that over to join Chase. I caught my first 2 on consecutive casts.
I had my limit within an hour. What a blast on that ultra light and 4lb test! Here's what all of mine were caught on....
After catching my limit I gave my outfit to Chase. He was having trouble keeping them hooked up but finally got the hang of it. After a couple trout he yells that he's got a nice one on and I run over to help and he reels up this thing....
He's just always has to show me up!! He ended his trout limit with a double. He just landed one with the rooster tail when a pole with a worm took off and he got that one too.
That was just a lot of fun fighting those little things. I'm gonna go back with both boys and just set back and video it. The only bad part was after I cleaned the fish I went to check that Chase had put up all the rods and our "hot" one was missing that we'd caught them all on. It seems that in the excitement of Chase's limit filling double it had been left behind. Kim and me drove all the way back over to Sullivan County and I couldn't believe it, but it was still right where Chase had dropped it.
