well its a little cold to start catfishing in rivers now but I decided to give it a try.We found a spot sort of close to the bank, there was a huge tree fell in the water. Is this where catfish mostly stay or can you find them in deep open flowing water?didnt catch nothing but dont know alot about em.

This is actually a good time of year to catch some big cats, the fish are feeding up for winter and usually concentrated around structure in the shallows, so it sounds like you have a good spot. If you're after channel cats I would use a smelly dip bait and cast so that the current carries the scent into the structure. Good luck and keep us posted!
