Well, that really depends...
- Using one the forum provides
- Using one you create
- Using one you find elsewhere online
[1] Using one the Forum Provides
When you select to add an avatar, they present you with a group of names. Select the name and that avatar will become YOU. Of course it might be the same one used by a dozen other Forum Members as well.
[2] Using one YOU create (or get someone else to create for you)
A 'custom made' avatar is created in a graphics program, then saved as either a JPG or PNG file.
That file is uploaded to a server: Flickr, Picasa, Photobucket or other Free service ... or to your own server (if you have an account; email accounts are NOT server accounts).
Once the file is on a remote server, copy the URL specific to that image file, then paste it in the Form Blank under Avatar URL:. !Voila! you have your avatar.
NOTE: the avatar cannot be larger than 100 pixels by 100 pixels
[3] Using an existing avatar online.
There are are at least a couple variations on this option.
A) you create an avatar on a FREE Avatar site such as
There are many more .. just Google:
free avatar creation. Of course this is
NOT going to be a individualized as a 'custom' avatar, but they ARE free. You get what you pay for.
OR ..
B) You can find an image online to use ...
BUT... for goodness sakes - DO NOT STEAL an image!. Some of us, who are artists and have our work online - get ripped off - or at least those perps try - all the time. I can tell you from personal experience - from both ends - that it's
NOT worth the hassle we'll cause you, IF you try to steal our art!
And I do mean NOT worth it!!There are plenty of FREE images to choose from.
If you find a great 'character' that
isn't free, contact the 'owner/creator' and ask if they will let you use it. Maybe you'll end up finding a relatively inexpensive and really cool custom image.
[/list]
Now... you should be able to get your Avatar up and going in no time.
Here's lookin' at you.
