I tried fishing during the eclipse yesterday hoping for a positive influence on the fish, but I really didn't notice any positive or negative impact on the fish. Near the peak of the eclipse the frogs did start croaking though!!
The fishing was spotty all day. We did end up with a mixed bag of gills, small bass, one crappie, and about 6 cats fishing mostly with minnows. I also threw some cranks, spinnerbaits, a buzzbait, and a few small jigs with similar results.
The catfish were in the spawning mode up in shallower water. Many of them were dropping eggs as they were being unhooked.
We just got back from a trip to Colorado and Montana. And even though it was more of a family reunion trip than a fishing trip, I did get a chance to borrow a flyrod from a relative and catch 4 trout on a black nymph pattern. They were all 15 to 18 inches and a blast to catch. I was fishing by myself so it was hard to get a good picture of me with the fish. That is my size 13 shoe in the picture for size reference though. We rented an airbnb home that slept 14 people.
A trustworthy friend sent me this pic that was sent him by another trustworthy and experienced hunter. He was out scouting for a treestand location near Vincennes, Indiana and spotted this. I think he probably passed on placing a stand in this tree.
