as long as the rifle caliber is allowed in your state. theres no reason for them to be illegal.

i know in indiana, any caliber is legal for coyotes
"Predator Calling It is legal to hunt fox and coyote with the use of mouth- or hand-operated calls, or with the use of recorded calls. Spotlights may be used to take fox and coyote. There are no restrictions on hunting hours or firearms for hunting fox and coyote. It is illegal to hunt fox or coyote from a roadway or with the use of any motor-driven conveyance."
that is from the guide book.

It's a Bushnell 3x9 but I've already taken it off. I threw it on there just to see how it would look. Don't know if I'll go with a red dot or get a LaRue mount like what Yoteslayer has on his. Would also like to get a set of iron sights to put on as well.

any recommendations on a good scope for a .223 bolt action rifle for coyotes and groundhogs out to 300-400 yards? I want a good one and have about $400 to spend.

Not sure if I can help you with shot distances that far. I normally hunt areas with less than 200 yard ranges. I am currently looking at the Burris scopes lineup as a possibility for my AR.

The AR's looking SWEET spainy! Thanks Troy! I should go ahead and post the $ figure. I've been asked this a lot since completing. As it sits now; complete stock group (stock, tube, buffer and spring), lower receiver, lower parts kit and complete upper assembly cost me $725 (the upper was $510). Granted this number will rise when I replace a couple things. I do not like the stock that is on it. The length of it fully extended is fine but there is not enough "surface area" there for a good cheek rest; it just doesn't feel right. I'll also swap the grips out but this will only add about $30 (give or take a few $'s) depending on make. Looking for a sling mount locking plate for the stock. Drill and tap a hole in the barrel shroud for a stud to mount a bipod on when needed (may skip that and get a set of shooting sticks).

Got a set of Magpul BUIS installed. I also ended up with a Burris scope mount for it but I'm still debating scopes so it's not installed yet. Here's the iron sights. I finally got to shoot this thing today too. Put 60 rounds through it...well, technically 59, one was a dead round. The first 30 rounds I took my time with to see how it would do. The second 30 rounds, let's just say I wanted to know how it would "perform".

OK, time for an update. Since I last posted yes, I killed all the pics in my PB account. Some have been replaced, others haven't. With that said my collection has actually dropped by one gun. I sold the H&R Handi .500 and the Mosin Nagant 91/30. I had to make a choice between the Marlin and the H&R; one of them had to go. The guy I sold the H&R to put it to good use and took a nice 11 pointer with it this year along with a doe. The 91/30 was a gun I bought to have for a project but it kept getting pushed aside. I sold it to a friend who was wanting to do the same thing with it. Over the summer I picked up a nice little Ruger 10/22 carbine. Great little plinker. The S&W .500 magnum will also be moving on as well. It's still in my possession but is being sold to another friend. I'll miss it but it is time to move on to something else. The money I get from that gun will likely go toward the purchase of a .458 Socom upper for my AR or to purchase a .44 mag revolver. I did make some changes to my AR but there's still no scope sitting up top. Just can't decide. I did just finish one project. I converted my Saiga 7.62 back to it's original configuration and made it 922R compliant. This allows me to run high cap mags through it legally. Here's a stock, Saiga 7.62 (not my pic). All torn down. New internals in the receiver. The trigger used to be in the location of where the bolt with the washer is. It now sits in the middle of the receiver. This is the new trigger/guard. If you want to run AK mags in this gun then a bullet guide will need to be installed. The guide will help assist with feeding the shell to the chamber. The first step is to drill a hole in the trunnion where the guide will sit. Next, be careful with supplied taps. This one snapped like a twig. Finally, find a friend who has a good tap set and finish the install. I did get to shoot this gun today but only put 10 rounds through it. The bullet guide was not installed when I shot it. I was mainly checking that it would fire and operate as it should and it did.
