I spooled a couple ultralight reels a while back and they had pretty bad line memory which caused me to waste quite a bit of it due to it coming off the reels when casting. I looked into the situation and came across this video from one of the guys I follow on YT. I currently have 2 spools of line soaking in water that will be going on my new crappie and saltwater reels. I'll let you know how it goes. Just wondering if any of you have any tricks you use to combat line memory and twist on your spinning reels?

I feel like I spool my reels the same way every time but sometimes I get no line memory and other times the line memory gives me fits. The only thing I can come up with is line quality might be the difference.

I've never had issues with braid, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have memory.
I did have an issue with mono on a reel years ago. I've just started putting fluoro on a couple of reels, which I believe it is the worst about having memory issues.

Just trying to get rid of that "sometimes" situation I guess.

I've never had issues with braid, but I'm pretty sure it doesn't have memory. I love braid. That's what I have on my 3 saltwater combos in Florida and I'm putting 50# braid on my big 6000 saltwater reel and had planned on putting 20# braid on the 5 other new saltwater reels. After doing some research I found that a lot of people still use mono for saltwater fishing and I can spool all 5 for the price of 1 versus braid, so I'm gonna give it a try. I got the Ande Premium 12# saltwater line. For the 6 new crappie reels I bought Bass Pro Crappie Max in camo color and that was just because it was on sale. Had planned on buying what my dad always uses for crappie which is Bass Pro hi-vis 6# saltwater line.

I know sometimes for me it has been more of an issue with overspooling rather than line memory. If I overspool a spinning reel I almost always have issues with line continuing to spool off after the cast or if the line has a little slack in it it wants to spool off a loop or two. And then when you go to reel it the loop ends up in a tangle. Frustrating as heck!
