Took the boy out last Wednesday night to a pond in a local park. The pond is loaded with tiny bluegill and I found out my size 4 hooks were too big to catch them consistently. He was still able to catch a few. Here is the first fish he was able to reel in... We went out again on Saturday evening and he hooked up with a decent redear on his first cast... I downsized to size 6 hooks and they were still too big for the gills. I may look at using ice fishing jigs, because I’d like to catch a bunch of the gills to use for bass bait at another pond.

That's awesome! You've got a fishing partner for life.

Esau went on his first creek adventure this evening and added a couple of fish to the species list. He caught a few rock bass and a green sunfish... He also caught a couple creek chubs, but I told him we’d pretend that didn’t happen.
