Met up with my cousin’s husband today at Bass Lake in the West Unit of the Greene-Sullivan State Forest. I’d been wanting to catch a musky for years, but hadn’t been able to connect with anyone to make it happen. My cousin’s husband posted a picture on FB last Friday of a musky he caught, so I sent him a message saying I’d like to tag along if he went again. He said he would be going out this morning, and he’d have an open seat in the boat. I jumped at the chance. I rigged up a medium-heavy pole I had with 50-pound braid and a steel leader. I didn’t bother with the big musky lures as I found out guys have luck with bigger bass lures. I got to the lake and on the water around 8:00 am. It was a little windier than expected, so it made it tricky to fish any areas that didn’t have a wind break. The fourth spot we fished I was throwing a Rapala Shad Rap and happened to notice a musky swimming past the boat. I threw the jerk bait out ahead of it and on the second toss I was hooked up. It was an awesome fight, but I was able to get the fish in the net after a couple of minutes. I can definitely see why guys love fishing for musky. It was a tough day with the wind and cooler weather, but I was super stoked to put my first musky in the boat.

That's awesome!! Did you get a measurement on it? Looks nice and fat which is good to see.
