Made it out yesterday for the first trip in the kayak in 2016. Met up with opochtli(Tony) and hit up a pit in Hillenbrand FWA. We could only get bit in one spot, so most of our time was spent there. I was getting bites with a red worm on the bottom and a ratso tipped with beemoth under a bobber. Also, got my kayak Anchor Wizard installed yesterday and tried it out for the first time. I love it. It is the best designed anchor system for a kayak that I have found. It was a little pricey, but it's made in the USA, in Michigan, and it appears to be a father-son shop. So that takes a little of the burn out of paying that much. Here's the best shot of the new anchor system.

Good to see you found a few fish?
That's a little salty on the anchor setup, but it looks nice. If I ever get around to buying a yak I'll probably go with a retractable dog leash and five-pound dumbbell.

I see you have the 12 ft. Ascend, right? Do you think the 10 ft. would work for me? I know I really would need to sit in it to find out, but still would be interested in your input.
Nice little pile of big gills!!!

Nice little pile of big gills!!! If I weighed less, I think I would get a shorter model. The 12 footer weighs in at around 90lbs. Then add in tackle and it can be quite the haul to the ramp even with a kayak cart. Opochtli and I talked about this briefly yesterday. He said he was looking at Ascend 10ft, but the reviews for this year's model are terrible. It may be worth your while to look at other 10 foot models. Maybe we can meet up at Lake X again and you can test drive mine to see what you think.

I saw the same reviews on the 10, but usually only the disappointed make reviews, so I wasn't sure. Since I have the small truck, I was really interested in the 10. Would love to meet up at Lake X or any place else to try yours. The 12 is only $50 dollars more from what I see. Are you sure you are not counting the cooler of beer in with the tackle weight??

Just saying, get rid of the tackle and the total weight goes down a little. ;-)

Good to see ya again Pat. I had one of "those" days where I couldn't seem to hook a single fish that bit my bait LOL. Still had fun and it felt good to get out. Can't wait for things to heat up more! natahka72 if you're looking for a 10ft, maybe consider the Heritage Angler 10, that seems to be the best reasonably priced option available in a 10ft sit-on-top. I think I'll be getting one myself in the next couple weeks. Just make sure you get a better seat... that seems to be the only issue with it.

I will check out the Heritage. I was also looking at the Lifetime Muskie 10. Any knowledge of this one???

No, but I was considering it. Looks like a real nice rig too. I found some folks on youtube with some positive reviews. Only thing that drew me towards the Heritage was the adjustable foot pegs and the fact that I can purchase it at Academy in Terre Haute to avoid shipping costs.

Just looking at the pics of the Heritage and Muskie, I would be worried about my back starting to ache. The framed seat on the Ascend is nice. I can fish for hours with no problems. Also, the frame seat will elevate you a few inches off the top of the kayak. It doesn't seem like it would make much of a difference, but I believe it does. I could only find one video review of the new fs10t.
Jerry, you might also want to look at the model that Troy has. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's an 11 footer. It's in a different price range, but it looks like a fish slaying machine.

Thanks, Patrick. I have always liked the seat aspect of the Ascend. It by far seems to be the best in that price range of yak. I have also looked into some of the seat options that can be added to the other models. I don't really know how much of a hassle it would be to do the add on seats.
When I saw the pictures of Troy's, quite awhile ago, that is when I started getting really interested in getting one myself. His is a real beauty for sure!
