I've been researching these techniques for taking crappie and I'm hoping to rig my boat for this style of fishing even though our state laws limit your ability to be able to fish effectively like this. One question I have is, with this method do you stay away from the weedbeds or do you still go through them? It seems like weedbeds would create problems for these techniques. It seems more conducive to trolling large weedless flats as opposed to weedbeds. Am I correct for thinking this or is there a weedless setup you use for the weeds?

Well, in my limited time doing it with dad, I can say that going through weeds can be very frustrating! You can do it, but you'll constantly be removing weeds from the jigs. That's one of the problems they have down there on those shallow lakes when the wind blows; it churns up the bottom and you're constantly removing moss from the jigs. That's one thing you're constantly checking for(not just bites), but that tell tell sign that you have a weed on your jig, because we all know that a fish won't bite a weedy bait. You might have already seen this, but here's a pretty good short article on the method; www.crappie.com/crappie/content.php?r=292

Good article! Thanks for sharing. Although I've been doing a lot of reading I had not come across that article yet. The reason I brought up the weeds issue is because my home lake gets pretty weed infested in any of the areas where the water is 8' or less. I'm trying to figure how this method will work for me on my home lake. I guess all I can do is try it and see what happens
