Yesterday I was in Jasonville to attend the funeral of my beloved great aunt Naomi. Aunt Naomi lived to the ripe old age of 100 yrs old. When I was young, me and my grandpa and grandma would make an annual summer trip down to aunt Naomi's farm in Jasonville (actually Howesville). We would pull my grandparents camper down there, as well as, have the aluminum boat tied to the ladder racks on grandpa's truck. We would spend two weeks each summer at the farm. It is some of the best memories I have from my youth. Everyday on the farm I would help out with chores. These chores would include picking garden veggies (she had a ginormous garden!), gathering eggs out of the hen house, catching a chicken for the evening dinner, feeding the cows, cutting grass in the pasture with the old International tractor and mowing their big yard. When I wasn't helping out with those things me and my grandparents would hit the stripper pits in search of big bluegills. Aunt Naomi continued to maintain a garden until she was 98 years old. She was quite an amazing woman with a heart of gold. She was the most giving person I've ever known.
I met up with my mom and step dad in Indianapolis on the night before the funeral and we all rode down together the next morning. Since we had a little time to burn once we got into the jasonville area we decided to stop and visit Peavey Cemetery. This is where my great aunts final resting place would be and is also a place where many of my ancestors have been laid to rest. While there I also discovered the headstones of Troy's grandparents whom he has fondly talked about many times on this site. I also saw the headstone of Troy's mom and dads future resting place. Hopefully it is a long, long time before those holes are dug, huh Troy?? There were also headstones there with last name Eccles on them and I am almost certain that these are Eli's descendants as well. I found it very neat that although i reside 4 hours away from there that we (Troy, Eli and myself) have connections that close. It's a small world. My great uncle helped keep the grounds mowed at the cemetery many years ago and I remember on one of my visits helping him mow the cemetery. I wasn't very efficient at mowing it because I would spend all my time reading the different headstones and asking Uncle Pete who the different people were and if they were related to me.
To sum up my day it was a great day. It was so neat to reflect on the great memories but at the same time it was sad to know that memories is all they will ever be and that those moments can never be relived again. Enjoy your eternity with your family in Heaven, Aunt Naomi. You will be missed until we meet again in the family reunion in the sky.
