Let the fun begin! They're up down in Georgia. Chase is down that way, I'll have to let him know and maybe he can take a hike around the woods.

I'm ready. It will be interesting to see how the crop is this year with all the snow we've had.

I'm thinking it will be a bumper crop year, but I suppose it all depends on what Mother Nature has in store for us this spring.

I'm afraid us northern guys will have a short season. I wouldn't be surprised if winter rolls right into summer with only a couple of weeks of spring like temps in between. But, mother nature is known for throwing lots of curveballs so we shall see.

Chase and me took a look at one of our black patches this evening and it still looks like winter in our woods. A few mayapples were just starting to poke out of the ground.
I'm already past my normal first find date, here they are for the past 5 years... 4-8-13 3-15-12(earliest ever) 4-4-11 4-1-10 4-2-09

I saw on the FB that someone found some smaller morels near Worthington. I'm going down to my grandma's tomorrow and we're going to poke around one of our spots to see if anything is up.

After the solid winter we had, I bet it will be a little later in my area.

We didn't see anything yesterday. The woods still has that winter look to it. We'll give it another shot next weekend, but I think Easter weekend they will really be popping.

Nothing worth picking, but we at least know they're starting... We found a dozen of similar size and all on moss.

Oh no, yellow ones already and we haven't even found any black ones yet?? I'm getting a real uneasy feeling about this season.

Those are greys, they were just a little dry. All those we found today were tiny greys.

4/12/14 I took my girlfriend out mushroom hunting for her first time on a spot in public land where people find a lot of early season blacks. We went for about an hour or so and came up with 8 blacks, somewhat decent sized. All under a big old ash about 15 feet from the base and on a south facing slope. Probably missed some, and might have found more if i kept hunting but I didn't want to wear her out or her to get bored so we didn't stay as long. Several others were out and about but didn't see any of them carrying a sack so must have not had any luck.I'd say we need a good rain and some more warm weather. supposed to get frost next week..
