Got 1 on Saturday morning. He was just sitting on a limb on the edge of the woods. I walked up into an area and never saw him. When I started leaving the area I heard him start barking. If he would've kept his mouth shut he would still be alive :-[. I saw several other squirrels but could not close the deal on them. However, the woods wasn't as active as I was expecting for such a nice morning.
On Sunday morning, I stopped and checked the one hickory tree I always check when I get into the woods and got one out of there. I decided to check some other areas and stumbled into a patch of about 10 hickory trees within about 20 yds of each other right along the edge of the woods. I didn't even realize these hickories existing. They were loaded with squirrels but the canopy underneath made it very difficult to spot all the "nut cutters" at work. I ended up getting two before they all skampered to their retreats. One of them fell right into the crotch of a tree and never made it to the ground There must've been 15-20 in this area but once the old 22 starting blazing they retreated pretty quick.

Over the past week I've been out 4 times in the evening. I've only seen 2 squirrels the entire time. I don't know what is going on. Must be the heat or something I rarely ever go into my woods this time of year without hearing the squirrels cutting nuts all over the place. I guess I will wait til we get a cool down.
