Dad with a 2.5# slab today! And a southern pike that I'm sure was quite the battle on a 16' crappie pole!

That is a stud crappie.
Any major difference between a northern pike and a southern pike, outside of geography?

Any major difference between a northern pike and a southern pike, outside of geography? It's actually a chain pickerel, same as we have around here and all over the country pretty much. I think they're caught a lot more in Florida because people are out fishing in the winter when they spawn. Southern folks call them "jacks" or "southern pike."

Well, our 3 months in Florida are about to come to an end, the fastest 3 months of the year. January crappie fishing started out rather slow. It is usually are best month but just 90 in Jan. this year. February was better with 142 caught. In March they usually begin to taper off, but we have still been catching them and has been just as good as Feb. The river is usually starting to get pretty low by this time, but with all the north winds we have had this year, it is still pretty high. So all-in-all it has been a good year and we hate to see it end.
