Well I know you southerner s got smacked with all that snow , but am wondering if all the pits and ponds are open water or do the have skim ice with snow ontop? The colder weather is coming this week and was thinking of doing some checking next weekend, but it is a drive to do it. Any reports appreciated! Thanks and Tightlines!!

There is a skiff of ice on some ponds, but I don't think it is anything I'd want to try walking on to fish.

Here's what our pond looks like here in NW Greene County... I'd call it a "slush ice." It's actually thick enough to hold me where I tried it. It's 33 with a light rain right now, not very good ice making conditions. Every time I look at the extended forecast it changes, so I don't know what to think. I'll try to keep an eye on things and report back.

I tried to do some huntingafter the first wave of big snow (maybe a 5 days ago) And looked at the landowners pond while walkin to the truck, the pond was pretty big and froze over all the way across but i broke some of the ice and it looked to be about 1 1/4"-1 1/2" thick MAYBE. But it didnt look or feel like it was very strong ice. It looked like half ice- half slush lol

This is my first day off and I didn't have time to check today. I stopped in Linton and bought some bait and was told that guys are fishing the pits, but it's not very good ice; 1-3 inches. Think I'm gonna load up and look around in the morning....probably try Shakamak and if the ice isn't good enough I'll just fish off a dock.

Howd the ice survive the rain in the state? Bunch of rain by me, so I can't imagine it fared well.

We've got around 3 inches of rain and it's still coming down. That plus sixty degree temps for a couple days equals NO ICE!
