I know there's not a whole lot of NBA fans out there, but I've always followed the Pacers(other than the embarrassment of a "brawl team" they had in the early 2000's.
With every regular season game telecast on Fox Sports Midwest/Indiana now, we've got to watch them a lot the past couple years and I like what I'm seeing, especially since Vogel took over last year. They play a team style ball with lots of fast breaks and passing and not the usual NBA...4 guys standing around with 1 guy trying to make a play style.
I encourage anyone who hasn't seen them play in a while to check them out on espn at 7pm tonight against the Heat. The Pacers were a fairly high scoring team during the regular season, but you won't see that tonight. The Heat series is a defensive battle. What you will see is a team that has each others backs and will play their hearts out.
Let me introduce them....
Point guard, George Hill - Local boy....born in Indy and went to IUPUI. The Pacers have gone 12-4 since he took over the point from Darren Collison in April.
Shooting Guard, Paul George - From Fresno State, the sky is the limit for this 2nd year player....an athletic beast. His scoring is down in the playoffs, but he gave Lebron fits on defense the other night.
Small Forward, Danny Granger - The vet, in his 7th season out of New Mexico, the Pacers leading scorer during the regular season. He's been the main defender of Lebron and his scoring has suffered. I look for him to get back on track tonight.
Power Forward, David West - The Pacers picked up West from New Orleans in the off season and he's the reason they're where they are. His 15 footer is money and he keeps the young pups in line.
Center, Roy Hibbert - True center in his 4th season out of Georgetown, the Pacers only All-Star this season. A rebounding machine with a sweet hook shot.
The bench, which will get a lot of time against Miami...
PG Darren Collison...the Pacers don't miss a beat when he comes in.
SG Dahntay Jones...could get a lot of time if the Pacers get in foul trouble again. Good defense....tries to do too much on offense sometimes.
PF Tyler Hansbrough....Pyscho T....comes in and plays his butt off.
SG Leandro Barbosa...Instant offense off the bench. This Brazilian is QUICK.
C Louis Amundson...LOUUUU....hasn't looked so good in the playoffs. Nerves maybe? He'll come in and grab a few rebounds and give Roy good periods of rest.
The Pacers bench should easily out duel Miami's bench, although they've not been playing their best in the playoffs so far.
So there they are....give them a chance!
