Hey everyone, I'm curious 2 what kind of set up you guys are using for carp. Do you prefer spinning or conventional reels? What bait are u using? What kind of pole? etc

Thats cool. On the river I fish in bow fishing is popular, but its almost 2 popular. Some people absolutely slaughter the carp and its hurting the population.

That would be nice, but as far as I know there are no asian carp in the south branch of the potomac.

I just use a 6 foot Ugly Stick rod with a Shakespeare spinning reel with 60# test line. Have been using 1/0 red hooks but am going to switch to some smaller hooks and maybe even try trebles. I usually use a float and homemade bait.

Sounds like a good setup. Ive tried trebles and it seems that they dont keep the bait in their mouths as long as they do with straight hooks. Maybey they can feel the prongs when they pick the bait up. Im still not sure about hook size. ive tried size 6 - 2, 1/0, 2/0 and 3/0 and 2/0 and 3/0 seem to do the best.
